Meet our Pilates Instructors: Melissa

I started out my career as a Physiotherapist back in 1998.  I soon realised that treating our patients would get them better but only temporarily because we weren’t fixing what caused the problem in the first place but rather treating the symptoms and current injuries.
I quickly worked out the cause – people (pretty much all of us) have faulty movement patterns and muscle imbalances which exist long before pain or injury  occur – this is the true cause of your pain and injury!
Then I found Pilates – after starting off with a weekend course back in 2002 (first of many), I fell in love – this was the answer – a long term solution to the pain, dysfunction and injuries I see everyday  as a Physio.
Pilates to me is not about the toned abs, the long-lengthened limbs or the lifted butt (although this is an awesome side effect that we all appreciate!) It is about improving the way people move, correcting the muscle imbalances, improving posture, stretching the tight structures and strengthening the weak ones. It is about fixing the root cause of dysfunction.  My job is now so rewarding: people that have been suffering pain for years and years are now able to fulfil health and lifestyle goals that they had given up on.  Climbing Mt Warning, lifting the grandkids, playing sport, travelling independently (able to lift their own suitcase), sit in a car for a long trip, walk on the beach, get down on the floor to play with their kids………the list is endless.
Pilates is THE LONG TERM SOLUTION!
Pilates has been my passion for over 16 years now and I would love to share it with you. Let us help you be the absolute best version of yourself. Improve the way your body moves, remove the aches and pains from your everyday existence and look great as a by-product.
In health and Happiness,
Melissa
